Wishes Really Do Come Truewith Make A Wish Michiga
Almost two weeks ago Will and I had the opportunity to represent the Michigan Young Agents Committee (YAC) along with four other committeemembersand our dates at the Make A Wish (MAW) gala at the MGM in Detroit. It was a magical night but rewind almost a year when the YAC’s decided that we wanted to grant two kids wishes. That meant that we would need to fundraise over $10,000 the most we had ever done before. We started out by hosting a wine toss at the MAIA annual convention in February and then we had a fundraising page that we promoted but our biggest fundraiser was at our YAC convention in June. We were able to have a family come in and Drew told us his story and all about his wish that was granted. He wanted to go to Florida and ride the Tower of Terror 13 times which he did! Make A Wish and Disney rolled out the red carpet for Drew and his family and the MAW representative told un s about another wish kid who wanted to go to Hawaii to Pearl Harbor because he was a big history buff. The trip was the trip of a lifetime and there wasn’t a dry eye in the whole room. We were soo close to meeting our goal so we posted it out on social media one last time and we ended up raising over $11,000!
When the opportunity to attend the Wish ball was presented we were all in!
It was so much fun going out and buying a beautiful gown for the event. As soon as I knew it was formal I headed over to one of our clients, Becker’s Bridal Outlet in Okemos. I walked in and immediately was overwhelmed with all of the beautiful dresses! One of their team members greeted me at the door and asked me a few questions to help me with my quest to say “yes” to the dress! They had an amazing selection of both long and short dresses as well as bridesmaid’s dresses. I picked out about 4-6 dresses of various lengths and styles and started the fun process of trying on dresses!
This catapulted me back to days of when I was searching for a wedding dress 14 years ago! Although this time I think I had more of an open mind on styles then I did back then. Ha! I tried on a short black bridesmaid’s dress with hidden pockets that was so cute and was for sure a contender and then the next one just bad so bad! I wouldn’t even come out of the dressing room and I am still positive that that dress looked stunning on the hanger and like a trash bag on me. Then I tried on a floor length black one shoulder dress with beautiful beading on the top of dress. It was stunning and I looked pretty amazing in it! I also had never worn a 1 shoulder before and then last but not least was this gorgeous black floor length gown with a small train. It had a champagne silk underlay with a lace off the shoulder overlay. It is just beautiful and I felt equally amazing in this dress too. In quickly decided the short dress was ruled out and now came the big decision…Eeek!! In the end the train won out! I said yes to that dress! The staff at Becker’s was so attentive and helped me pick out some beautiful earrings and I ended up ordering a necklace online. Stay tuned to hear all about the ball!
