Comfort Zone what Comfort Zone?nn

Owning your own business can be straight up scary at times. There are so many decisions that you make on a day to day basis that impact quite a few people and things in your business. Sometimes you fix one thing to then turn around and break another thing that was totally fine before! Some of those decision are BIG and others like what kind of paperclips to buy—ones with ridges or not don’t have as big of an impact.

These last few weeks we’ve been looking to fill our Director of First Impressions position. This person plays a very important role in our agency. This person is typically the first interaction people have with our agency whether over the phone or in person and are responsible for helping our agency become paperless in a timely fashion. This in and of itself is a HUGE task! We had received a few resumes but just hadn’t found the right fit for us.

As you may know I’m a HUGE advocate of using video in your business. It helps your clients get to know you, your business and the services you provide. I decided to take my own advice and create a video for our own job posting. We have NEVER done this before and I was totally freaking out about how well a video would be received and if it would produce any results. So, I pulled up my big girl pants and decided to film! It took me 20 times to shoot and reshoot and then reshoot again until the video was just right. We posted it on Friday night and I waited and waited and waited and sure enough we received text messages, emails and overall great feedback from our video. If I wouldn’t have done the post we wouldn’t have found our newest team member, Kelsey Stevenson!

As a business owner one of the things that scares me the most is the unknown but these are the moments that I learn the most. I’m my biggest cheerleader and worst critic. I push myself and our business to be the best that we can be.

If we never took a chance and pushed ourselves to do the things that scare us or make us uncomfortable even terrified we wouldn’t own the agency! I would never have gotten back into Irish dance and I would NEVER have tried highland dancing. It’s not the easiest being a late 30 year old getting up on that dance floor competing against people significantly younger than you like say 8-13 year olds J You just have to do it! Do your research, take a chance because you don’t know what you don’t know.

What’s the worst that could have happened? Well my video flops and we don’t receive any resumes and we are back to where we were before….still looking! So get out there and challenge yourself!
