At Meiers Lombardini Lemanski Insurance, our “MLL Cares” initiative is all about uplifting the incredible local organizations making a real difference in our community. Today, we want to give a massive shoutout to our friends at 42 North Construction and Korey Hatter for putting a truly inspiring local nonprofit on our radar: Michigan Outdoor Wishmakers.
What is Michigan Outdoor Wishmakers?
Started in 2018 by local hunting and fishing enthusiasts, Michigan Outdoor Wishmakers held its first official group event in 2019. Their mission is powerful and heartwarming: they provide unforgettable outdoor adventures for children, young adults, and veterans living with life-threatening illnesses or life-limiting disabilities who thought they might never be able to experience hunting or fishing.
Best of all? These life-changing adventures are entirely free of charge for participants and their families.
An Unforgettable 3-to-4-Day Experience
Participants head out to Allen Creek Ranch, which boasts nearly 600 acres of prime hunting grounds. Upon arrival, each hunter receives brand-new camouflage clothing and gets introduced to the dedicated Wishmakers team and volunteers.
Beyond the hunt itself, education and community are at the core of the organization’s mission. The itinerary features:
- Outdoor Education: Learning about wildlife and nature conservation.
- Camp Fun: Enjoying yard games, hayrides, and shed hunts.
- Shared Meals & Stories: Connecting over great food and spending the final night gathered around the campfire. During this cherished tradition, participants share their favorite highlights, key takeaways, and how they’ve grown over the past few days.
What sets Michigan Outdoor Wishmakers apart is that they build a family, not just an event. They make it a priority to stay in touch with their participants long after the trip ends.
